Belong has appointed Tomas Zahorka as area manager of the branch of its award-winning home care service, Belong at Home, that covers the Newcastle-under-Lyme area of Staffordshire.
Tomas, 42, will be responsible for all aspects of the organisation’s provision of bespoke support packages within CQC guidelines, together with the training and professional development of its employees.
Originally from the Czech Republic, Tomas found his calling in the care sector after moving to the UK and becoming an assistant support worker at the not-for-profit operator’s Macclesfield care village in 2011. He previously lived in St. Louis, Missouri, in the United States, and studied political science and human rights at Webster University before training to become a teacher. His career at Belong has seen him progress to the role of senior community support worker for the local branch of its home care service.
Commenting on his new appointment, Tomas said: “I’ve really enjoyed my journey with Belong so far, so I’m very excited about this new responsibility and challenge. I’m looking forward to providing the highest standards of care for customers and to create employment opportunities for people in the local area as the service grows.”
Belong at Home operations manager Jo Ball added: “In his time at Belong, Tomas has shown a passion for providing high-quality, personalised care, along with great leadership potential. His values are also closely aligned with those of Belong; therefore he is exactly the right person to lead the service as Belong seeks to extend its home care provision to people living in Newcastle and the surrounding areas.”
As well as qualifications obtained prior to becoming a teacher, which include a masters degree in special education, Tomas holds an NVQ level 3 in health and social care and is studying to achieve NVQ level 5 in leadership management.
Unlike conventional home care providers, Belong at Home tailors its care packages to individual needs, supporting customers with a consistent team of highly qualified staff to promote positive relationship-based care. Staff are also highly qualified to provide specialist support for people living with dementia.
Belong at Home is a Gold accredited Investor in People and Real Living Wage employer, with its remuneration packages including contracted hours and paid induction, travel time, mileage and DBS checks. As a not-for-profit organisation, Belong invests in high levels of training to develop the skills and careers of their employees, which in turn ensures the highest quality care for customers.
